Our Background

The Origins of DecalGirl

So two decades ago, a freshly graduated elementary school teacher (Amanda) and her web developer husband (me) started dabbling with making high-resolution full-color decals. That's where the name came from - she's a girl, and she made decals... get it?

Anyway, one day late in the spring 2003, we had the crazy idea to make a pre-cut, full-color decal for our Xbox. No more black plastic - it looked great! She was struggling to find a teaching job, and we figured she could make a little selling these to supplement her part-time job and take the pressure off her.

So the basement operation was born, and before you know it we had one full-time employee. Then another. Then another. At one point, DecalGirl took over the whole basement and two other rooms in the house so we opted to move to our first commercial location.

That was 20 years ago - we've moved to bigger spaces twice now and happily employ an awesome team of 12 people. We've shipped millions and millions of orders around the world, but we don't want investors. That would force us to get bigger and lose sight of our focus on quality and doing right by our team - and by you, the people who keep the lights on and food on the tables.

We work with artists around the world and have dabbled in licensing with a select few brands like Disney, Mossy Oak, MotoGP, US Army, US Marine Corps, US Navy and more. A few years back, we started doing cases too - because we're all about the gadgets and some people need more than a skin for their phones (which seem to fall out of their hands with alarming regularity). We're just as particular about our case quality and fitment... we don't sell something unless we'd use it ourselves.
