Our skins are precision-fit to each specific generation of the Kindle Paperwhite, so you must pick the correct model when buying one. Amazon has been making its Paperwhite reader for over a decade, and there have been five distinct models.  

As of firmware version 5.14, most newer Kindle devices list their device name in the "Device Info" section starting with firmware version 5.14. To find this, 

• Go to your Kindle’s Settings menu. 
• Navigate to Device Options.
• Tap the Device Info option.
• The resulting screen will display information like firmware version, Wi-Fi MAC address, and more.
• The first item on the list should be your device’s model.

Older models may have their serial numbers in another location, so you may have to dig around to find them. Once you do, the first several characters are all you need to identify which model you have. Below, we'll list the models from the newest to the oldest.

Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021) & Kindle Paperwhite 5 (2021) Signature Edition

This is the current model. The standard model has 8GB of storage and requires manual adjustment of the screen's brightness. The Signature Edition has 32GB of storage and a small ambient light sensor on the front, allowing it to adjust the display's brightness automatically.
